An Important
Message to Grantseekers

As you may know, this year Independence
Community Foundation
announced that it would limit its grantmaking
to Brooklyn. This was an important strategic decision for our 11
year old foundation and the first step in a broader initiative to
serve the people of Brooklyn through creating more opportunities for
community giving and service.
Implementation of this plan, which will result
in the creation of Brooklyn’s first community foundation, is well
underway. The Brooklyn Community Foundation will seek to increase
support for Brooklyn’s nonprofit community through coordinated
fundraising campaigns, challenge grants, and connecting potential
donors to important issues, trends and opportunities in their
