When to Apply:

All requests to ICF, whether for initial or renewal funding, must begin with a letter of inquiry. The Foundation accepts letters of inquiry during the year’s first and third quarters (January 1 – March 31 and July 1 – September 30). Letters of inquiry postmarked outside of these dates will be returned to the applying organizations.

Procedure:

  1. Carefully review the Eligibility Guidelines page and the Foundation’s grant programs.

  2. Use the links below to download a copy of Foundation's Letter of Inquiry Instruction Form and our Letter of Inquiry Preparation Tips.  These documents will guide you in preparing your LOI.

  3. Remember, applicants are required to attach an expense and revenue budget, which covers the program or project that is the subject of your letter of inquiry, as well as a listing of funding sources and solicitations to date.

  4. You may apply to our Small Grant Program if you are seeking a grant of $500 or less.

  5. Click the Apply Online button on this page or mail a complete letter of inquiry of no more than 2-3 pages and all required attachments to:

What Happens Next?

In most cases, decisions on letters of inquiry will take place within a month of receipt of a complete letter of inquiry. Organizations that are invited to submit a full proposal are encouraged to refer to our Preparing a Full Proposal section for helpful tips.
